Contender for a flop gun ?

Post by IKE »

Can a Contender be used for a flop gun without altering / shortening the frame ?

Yes sir,my first flop gun was on a contender frame.I started with a 22 and 12x,and gradually bumped the power to 36x.Richard redd is using the Encore frame and has won several championships.Ike you remember Scott Thompson?he used the contender for years, has just recently went to a Anschutz. **==

I flop with contenders. The pachmeyer gripper grip is the most comfortable for me to get my little finger under the bottom and not have to stretch to reach the trigger.

For now I'm thinking more along the lines of BB not .22.......I'll be using my 14" barrels in 6.5 TCU, 7 TCU and 300 Whisper without muzzle brakes that I've used many times in the creedmore before.

Still doable ?

I may have put the cart in front of the horse on this.

I quit shooting a few years ago because of my bad lower back (I was always strictly a creedmore shooter) but I tried the flop last night and it really bothers my lower back even more than the creedmore.

I considered becoming a standing shooter but prolonged standing or sitting bites me also.

I can still get in and out of and maintain the creedmore but can only do so very slowly and carefully......so slowly in fact that everyone would probably be on their second bank of critters while I was just starting on the first bank plus when it's time to change stations I'd probably be holding up the line and have a shooter standing and waiting for me to get up and move on. :(

I have really missed the sport but I'm not sure because of my back if it's doable........we'll see.

I will not let my handicap keep me from shooting. I shoot the flop from a table. I fell and broke my back two years ago. I'm as well as I'm ever going to be. I use a plastic fold up table from wally world and a broken office chair I got from work. I depend on my fellow shooters to help me move from animal to animal. So far everyone has been nice to this crippled up old man.

At our range we have elevated shooting platforms for shooters with disabilities that we can move around as needed. Usually we just leave the elevated platform at one position and shooters on the other banks adjust to the correct animals as needed. If you have physical issues, please remember special cards are available to allow special needs shooters to use chairs when shooting standing entries and elevated platforms if necessary. Several years ago IHMSA recognized special needs for some shooters and most if not all MDs are willing to provide the necessary accomodations. We value all shooters and want to provide whatever it takes to keep you in our sport. Just let the local MD know of your condition so provisions will be available.

We also have the adjustable handicap benches, for those in needed. If I had to go back to dead frog or creedmore, I would have to quit! Most of us old guys have some sort of disability, after 2 neck and 4 shoulder surgeries.I can`t bend my neck down, the flop is my only choice. I still can and will continue to shoot as long as I can find away! **==
