Magnum Research BFR Revolver .30-30 10"

Is the Magnum Research BFR Revolver .30-30 10" acceptable for big bore?

I'm thinking I could use the revolver, a T/C contender, and a bolt action something,.. all chambered for .30-30 for the three classes.

GB, Unfortunately the BFR would only be legal as an unlimited gun. I too thought about the 30-30 BFR for Production and Revolver classes but it won't make weight. I think it would be a fun gun to shoot as Unlimited but might not stack up against TC, XPs and other true unlimited guns. Wish I had the bucks to buy one just to shoot re-entries in Unlimited but they aren't cheap. I hear they are great shooters and the 30-30 with 130 grain bullets should shoot pretty flat.

260 Striker, I agree. The thing is too heavy. I was just fascinated by the idea of using the same round in different classes,... sort of like using the .357 Max for everything.

If it did make weight, the recoil might be awful from a .30-30, anyway.

I am also one of those wacky folks that likes to have a short gun and a long gun in the same caliber.

-- One of my acquaintances has a Hi-Point .45acp carbine,... it looks goofy, it has an unconditional lifetime warranty for anyone that owns it (the warranty stays with the gun), but the thing is stone reliable, and is more accurate than I would have thought any long gun could be in that caliber,,.. and it is so frickin' CHEAP. It would go well with my 1911.

GB, I too have been accused of being unconventional in my gun selections. I started IHMSA competition with a 10" TC in 30-30 and then later a 14" 30-30 for Unlimited use. Great cartridge in a handgun for shooting at 200 meters. The BFR just looks like it would be fun with the 30-30 option. If I had one I would just shoot at our targets for fun just to prove the gun and cartridge could knock over the targets even if it was not an approved entry. I also agree about the Highpoint. I don't own one but everything I have read about them is good except they are ugly but they sure can shoot. Some guns you don't really need a reason to own other than they are just plain fun.

Absolutely. The perfect revolver chambering is the .41 Mag! Not too big; not too small, just right kind of like Momma Bear. I have one of the first FA .41 Mags made.

Absolutely. The perfect revolver chambering is the .41 Mag! Not too big; not too small, just right kind of like Momma Bear. I have one of the first FA .41 Mags made.

GB, I emailed Ruger years ago when FA brought out their 41Mag revolvers and asked why Ruger didn't chamber their 10 1/2" RSB in 41Mag. Now that would be a shooter or even in 357Mag with 200 grain cast bullets. Like a dummy, I thought the guy would at least pass my suggestion to the head honchos at Ruger. I can't say bad things about FAs but I can say I have had three of them and they just didn't fit my hand like a Ruger. I will have to agree with Steve that the 41Mag is a perfect balance for power but doesn't beat the shooter to death. I shot a TC 41Mag several times in production but didn't do well, but again that is me. Still think the Ruger 357 and 41 with a 10 1/2" barrel would be fun to shoot.
