IHMSA Survival

Post by xp-100 »

If everyone in IHMSA had the same negative attitude then the club will not survive. It is going to take each and everyone to look at the bright positive side of things and not the negative side to keep this sport afloat. Seems like when ever someone has to try to make a comment to try to help the club, someone chimes in with a negative answer and attitude. If this persists then it will discourage any and all new comers to the sport who will sit here and read the comments that are posted. I am not the smartest person and I don't have an answer to everything that needs to happen to keep things afloat, but, I, for one, am willing to listen and go with the flo of the brighter side and positive side of trying to keep this club alive. Yes, I love the sport and will continue to shoot and support the cause. Each and everyone should try the same.

Oh good for you Jeff, lets just ignore all the problems, every thing is great in IHMSA!! NOT Jeff, you have not been around long enough to even have a clue about what you are talking about! =;
tonedaddy,

I am not ignoring the problems at all, every organization has problems, the difference is how those problems are handled. Just verbalizing negative comments will not fix them or help fix them. And, for your information, I have spent hours on the phone and in-person with longtime IHMSA members listening to their experiences and concerns. I do not have a long history with IHMSA, I will however listen to those that do so that I can learn from their experiences. What I decide to do with that information is what will or will not make any difference. No single person has all the answers, that's for sure!

I also do "have a clue" about what I'm talking about because those are MY experiences, not your's!

Here's a question for all of us: "How do we address the concerns of IHMSA members?" I don't know the 'forum names' so I don't know if a person is an IHMSA Board member or not. It would be really nice to hear from the Board on this!

I think another thing that is also critical to the future in addition to getting new shooters is then getting those new shooters involved in helping at the matches or possibly even taking over at matches when they have gained enough experience. Many of the MDs today are getting a little long in the tooth and are just hanging on because they don't want to lose our sport or local range but are not getting any new support to help run the matches. Our club is the oldest active IHMSA club in OH and we just have a handful of members. Many of us have maintained the same director slots because we can't get any new blood to step in and take over. We are happy to continue this way but some of us are not as young as we used to be. I have seen many comments from new shooters that gives me hope our sport will survive but helping at the matches goes a long way to make sure our MDs have the support they need to continue to hold matches. Thanks to all the newbies and established members who do pitch in, it is greatly appreciated.

i've been shooting ihmsa for 31 years. current region 2 director and current mach director at MRPC since 2007. we used to have around 50 to 70 guns at our monthly matches with a bunch of local shooters. that has changed in recent years. out of 1300 current club members only 2 of us shoot ihmsa anymore. the club has requested that i shut the matches down due to having to close part of the range down to the club membership when the ihmsa match is in progress. the silhouette range has several different matches that also close the range also, but they get 20 to 30 club members that participate. i got permission to schedule 5 matches this year down from the usual 7 scheduled matches, but ihmsa matches for next year will probably not be approved unless we get more club members to attend and i don't see that happening. the nearest BB range for me will be in GA. so i will not be attending any BB matches next year except the REGION 2 championships or the new range in LA. if it gets going. already sold a bunch of my silhouette guns, cancelled an order for a new FREEDOM ARMS silhouette gun, and sold some of my silhouette stuff and will sale a bunch more. i will never quit ihmsa, but looks like my shooting will be sparce. just had to vent some. allen
