Big Bore/Half-Scale Match Report

COMMENTS

It was a great match with several personal best scores and some dark horses coming from behind to take the championship.

In the personal best column, Mike Abel fired his first Production 40. That got him in a shoot-off with Joe Cullison, and Joe took the win 4x5 to Mike’s 2x5, but it was still an outstanding performance by Mike. Kevin Baker fired his first Unlimited 40. He went on to his 4x5 shoot-off targets taking the win from Charlie Dean who hit 2x5. Rich Burket fired an excellent 34 with his Winchester model 94; which was his personal best score. Ron Sprafkin fired a 37 in Half Scale to earn a leg into AAA class.

Joe Cullison took the Revolver and Standing championships. Joe and Don Ritz were tied in Revolver, but neither shot the shoot-off targets. Thus, reverse animal count decided the contest. Larry Hixson was not far behind Joe in Standing, but he just was not close enough. But, Larry did bring two new people to the match, and they did say they had fun. Both are old IHMSA members, and hopefully Russ and Red with rejoin and shoot with us.

The Unlimited Any Sight shooters had a bit of a struggle today with no perfect scores. Levi Lee’s 37 was top dog in that discipline.

Dave Whitman and Paul Hoadley tied for match champion in Unlimited Standing. After a discussion, they decided that they would not shoot it off. Thus, Paul is our champion by reverse animal count.

On the Half Scale side, Charlie Dean and Mike Abel had quite a duel with both firing 40’s in the Any Sight discipline. Mike and Charlie were also tied with 5 shoot-off targets apiece. A second round of shoot-offs gave Charlie the championship with 4x5 to Mike’s 3x5. That was a hard fought victory on Charlie’s part, and it also earned him the High Senior title!

Mike was our champion in Unlimited One-Half Scale.
