For those that care
I'm getting a round to playing with my 14" 300 whisper contender
rp donated some 165 sil and some 165 saco cast bullets for me to try and I have some 110,125 165 and 200 gr. jacket bullets
this could be a duel purpose gun Unlimited and because I shoot the scope classes with open sights unlimited standing
So I'm looking for any tip and mostly any load data for both cast and jacket you care to share. Ether posted here, by PM or my e-mail is in my profile

Richard - my jacketed load is this: W-W .223 Rem. cases (formed), Sierra 180 SBT, 13.5 gr. 296, CCI-400 primer. I am using 296 because I have a BUNCH of it ! Works good in my XP !

I have gone through many a can of 296 just like those ! Through the years, I have had many people tell me that 296 was not a good powder - but it has been my "go to" powder for 357 Mag, 44 Mag, 30 Carbine, and now 300/221. I have been using it for almost 40 years - works for me !

yep mine too back when I shot 357 / 44 but have not used it as of lately

but have used some of this for FP no price but figure was in the $ 5 or 6 range

As long as you respect the characteristics of W296 (not downloading it) you have a good selection for top loads. It is said that H110 is close (and some say the same) to W296. Accurate (Now Western Powders) markets their #9 which has similar uses. rp

Richard I remember(now that you said something) that warning they gave about not using reduced loads with 296. I haven't loaded anything with 296 in 20+ years
Philip this looks to be what about 1450 mv. load with th e 180's. My goal is to have some with mild recoil (not much more than my 32-20)
for U standing (but using peep sights not scope) and for U flopping thinking with the 165gr. cast. something in the 1400 range
but also thinking with the added weight and + MV of the 14" barrel 1500 could be ok

Richard, I have 2 words of advice for you --- "MUZZLE BRAKE" - I used to shoot a 14" 30 Carbine in US, with a high-rise mount. I had a brake installed on it after getting popped a couple of times with a Leupold 12X rifle scope. I also tried it later in the "flop" - without the brake it would have been unusable. Granted, I was shooting full-power loads with 150 grain jacketed bullets. Even then I had to be SUPER careful ! I hope your cast bullet plan works - make yourself a HEAVY forearm for the flop !! If you plan to scope it, I still think that recoil will be excessive for the way you shoot.
