Re: Cast in a Striker
Also try 23.0 of AA5744. SR4759 is a great powder for cast. You could probably cut way back to 19.0 or 20.0 grains and still get very good accuracy with that bullet. I have had great luck with the RCBS 145 7mm bullet too. RCBS also makes a 168 grain mould and both designs are bore rider types so the bullets can be seated out further than your Lyman. I think you will like your Striker with cast. Unfortunately my 260 Striker does not like cast but two other Strikers I had loved cast bullets.

Re: Cast in a Striker
I'm still working on it , I'll back off a little and see what happens . The 7-08 strikers have a 1:11.5 twist barrel , I tried some 145 RCBS's that shooter from Md. give me and they wouldn't chamber the nose was too big. I think they were from lino maybe that had something to do with it. Mine had the brake on it , I took it off what would shoot good one day would be junk the next. I took the brake off and instant consistency . It did alright with the brake shut and jacketed but cast and the brake
. Thanks

Re: Cast in a Striker
I left out one important thing when using the RCBS 145 and 168 bullets. I take a .277 (for 270 Win) H&I die and drop the 145 and 168 bullets NOSE FIRST into the .277 H&I die. This just kisses the noses and rounds out the mould parting line. I shove them down in (don't need to lube noses) until they touch the front driving band and then remove them. Sizing the noses will then allow you to use them as bore riders in the 7-08. Never had a brake on my Strikers so can't comment about that. Maybe the turbulence inside the brake is affecting the cast bullet as it exits the end of the brake. Once you find the right combination, I think you will find the Striker to be as accurate as any other bolt gun. My 260 Rem Striker is amazingly accurate with jacketed bullets. When I tried cast I only had one Lyman mould to use so never really tried hard to find a cast load for it. If/when I run out of jacketed bullets, I will give cast another try. The 6.5 moulds are not as plentiful as the 7mm moulds. Keep on going with the project. You will be very happy when you find that just right combination.
