What would be handy to have in a smart phone app for silhouette shooting?
My first thought would be sight settings. Would you want just general settings for firearm, load? Would you want it for firearm, load and the location you are shooting at? Would you want to see total clicks, change in clicks or both?
Would you want to be able to score matches and review them later?

Would a spreadsheet accommodate most of these requirements rather than an app? Just asking as it would be far less complicated to create.

I use an I-pad for this (I don't have a cell phone). I use the Numbers program (equivalent to Excel), and have a sheet within the program for each one of my guns. Can add info for different shoots for different guns, and is a ton easier than trying to read the chicken scratches from my old notebooks. Carry it in my shooting box, and it also serves as my timer. Has been a great time saver and organizational tool for me.

This is going to be a training app for me in both minutes of my spare time. My goal is to come up with a frame work that hopefully will be expanded to include a reloading log and maybe a silhouette score card app. If I do it correctly, it should be an easy stretch to expand to 3P shooting, etc.

I hope it will work on iPhones/iPads and not just Androids, etc.

Clicks wise I'd like to see both. Also, add gun range and comment for shooting conditions. Time of day and amount of light changes the clicks. A timer would be nice. Also maybe a spotting board. Spotter can touch a outline of the target were you hit and a spot turns red. If the hits are remembered then at the end of the string you could check your group. Loading data record would be good. Bullet drop calculator with an aid to get initial sight settings would be great.

I trust this is not far off topic; but what I would really like as a Match Director is to have IHMSA re-create the source code for the IHMSA Match Software and keep it updated. I keep my Sight Settings for each of my guns on my phone as PDFs and can access them at anytime, with or without a cellular connection.

Well, there are a bunch of good ideas here. The first cut will probably just displaying sight settings for firearm, load, range and whether you are standing or freestyle. It has been a few years since I ran a match and I was not aware the match director software was not being updated. That might be another project. I think I can do the same functionality, but will be in java and probably use xml to store information.

This certainly sounds like a great project. Thanks for putting in the thought on this.
