Just got an email today from a fellow IHMSA cast bullet shooter containing a url. The link led me to the dailycaller website where there was an article about the last active lead smelting plant in the U.S. that processes lead bullion from lead ore will be shutting down in December due to tighter EPA emissions standards. Smaller smelters that recycle lead from batteries will still be running but lead from ore will no longer be produced here in the U.S.
I wonder what the impact will be to our shooting components, ammo and such.
Here is the link if anyone wants to check out the story.

Re: Lead????
You might begin by saying whatever is made using lead will cost more. Of course everything is going to cost more anyway as whatever you ship has fuel costs involved as well as administrative costs to the shipper. rp
I have served as assistant match director, Southern Silhouette club, 1980s. Also, the Griffin Gun Club for Silhouette during the 1990s, to about 2005. For a short period I authored the ''Cast Bullet'' section of The IHMSA News. Joined IHMSA March 1979.
Re: Lead????
Actually, I a good friend of mine is a commercial caster here in the Midwest and he says that it really isn't a big deal. They have been importing lead for many, many years and it's been cheaper to buy the lead from outside the US than to have it from ore here in the states. The article mentions the smelter trying to pass all of the EPA regulations...that's one of the problems with having done here. (Yes, thanks to Obama's people another US company bites the dust.) Yes, it would be better to have a smelter here in the US...but you don't really think that this particular smelter was supplying lead for the entire US. It's cheaper to import lead than to have it manufactured here in the states.
