60 vs. 80 rounds for Internationals?

Post by KickBass »

This topic came up around the ol' proverbial campfire at Internationals this year. Does the Internationals have to be 80 rounds? The reason I am bringing it up is that there are limited places that can host if it is 80 rounds, but if you cut it to 60 rounds, that might open up some other ranges? Any thoughts?

There is certainly no hard & fast rule making it an 80 round match. Also, a 60 round match might be more acceptable as we are still experiencing shortages of reloading components and Small Bore ammunition.

I would make a prediction that soon it will be 60 rounds. The other advantage of a 60 round match is that you can get more guns in fewer days. I have shot 4 guns in a day at a 60 round match. Even if you didn't want wear yourself out it would be easier to shoot your aggregates in 3 to 5 days. Not need to schedule 7 days. It would be a win win for all aspects.

80 round matches made sense when there were only 4 or even 6 categories.........total. But now.....with scoped, half scale, small bore, fifth scale, air, and field pistol............now practical hunter too. I'm too tired to count all the categories right now. What's that, 27 categories. 60 rounds makes much more sense.

Hi
For me what sets the Internationals apart from a State Championship, a Regional, the ECC or WCC is the fact that it is a 80 round match. I have multiple chances to shoot 60's throughout the year but only one chance at a 80. If I miss a target at the Internationals I have to wait a whole year to try again. For me this makes it more challenging and therefore more fun. It adds some pressure that is not at any other match. I do see the advantages of shooting a 60 round match. Especially since the Internationals have been shortened to a one week match. With all of the categories available to us now it is impossible for two shooters to shoot and spot for each other and get in all of the guns. One now has to pick and choose which guns they want to shoot. The added guns would be nice but I for one would miss the added challenge and pressure. Getting to see people that I only get to see at the Internationals would remain the same and that is a big part of the pleasure of attending.
