Left the Range

Post by 19 Turkeys »

It is with great sadness that I report the loss of a good friend to both IHMSA & me, Jim Rock. Jim died tonight peacefully at his home at the ripe old age of 92. Jim was a great supporter of IHMSA as well as manufacturer of the excellent XL pistol.

Wow, I am sorry to hear this. I had several conversations with him through the years. He was a staunch supporter of IHMSA for many, many moons. May he rest in peace !

Our sport is losing many of the supporters/manufacturers and early heroes of our sport. I did not know him personally but his pistols indicated a quality gentleman and firearms expert. My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

Only wish I could shoot his pistols as well as he built them! Prayers for Jim and his family. The world just got a little smaller without Jim.

Yes, very sad news. Jim was always friendly and would do his best to accommodate a customer and friend. Prayers to the family during this time of loss. Jim will be missed.

Sad news for sure. Jim was a great contributor to the shooting sports, especial pistol silhouette. He was one of my mentors when I first entered the sport back in Ca. in the early 80's. Had a great personality, could be gruff at times but was always helpful and would give you his honest opinion when asked. He was a heck of a shooter and made some great improvements to the Merrill Pistol. My first gun for production Standing was a Merrill in 30 Herrett and now I shoot an XL in 270 Rocket, with several of his pistols in between. He will be missed.

I first met Jim in the early 80's when he was still in CA. Saw him the last time at The Old Timers Revival match held in Tucson,AZ. in 2004. He was one of the great ones, he will be missed.

I have known and shot with Jim Rock since 1977. He was one of our greats, a pioneer of our sport and a true gentleman. My sincerest sympathies go out to his lovely wife, Iris and his daughter Dana. He will be sorely missed. God Bless you Jim. Your old friend, Leo Aregian, IHMSA 660.

RIP Jim. I recall that Jim gave me an extended guided tour through his Fullerton factory. He was very helpful. I bought a "Sportsman" in 30 Merrill and really enjoyed shooting it.
