JCSA Grants Pass, OR 3/13/11

Dave Whitman and Larry Hixson decided to have another “Shorty Forty” duel with their 3 inch handguns on the Field Pistol course. No records were set this match, and Dave was the winner by a scant two targets.

Things started out hot and heavy in Field Pistol with Mike Abel shooting a very nice 34. Ron Sprafkin followed with an even better 35. It looked like that could be a winner, but Larry Hixson had a an even better day taking both the Production and Production Any Sight championships and gaining an entry into the prestigious President’s 60 Club with an aggregate of 70.

Maggie and John Fouts shot with us today, and Maggie was rewarded with High Lady. They promised to not stay away quite so long from now on.

Dave Whitman fired the only 40 in Unlimited One-Fifth Scale to take that title. It appeared that he might take High Senior as well, but Charlie Dean fired an iron sighted 40 in Unlimited to take that title.

Mike Abel and Kevin Baker went head-to-head on the Unlimited Half-Scale course. Mike came out with a 39, shooting under a ram. Kevin then fired a perfect 40 to clinch the win.

Rich Burket inspired Charlie and I to break out our rifles and give that a go. We both knew we did not stand a chance winning against Rich, and that prediction held true. However, we did have a good time and will probably break the rifles out a bit more frequently.

Don Ritz was our Small Bore Production champion for the day. Charlie and Don were neck and neck in Revolver, but Charlie took the title by one target, another close race!

Tom Williams and Dave Healy were tied at 39 each in Unlimited Any Sight, but Dave left without shooting the shoot-off targets giving Tom the win.

Ron Sprafkin was the clear winner in Unlimited Standing. No other shooter was even close to his 26.
