What do I have here?

Post by Jason280 »

I recently found a decent deal on an XP100, which started out as a standard 14.5" 7mm BR. At some point, it was reamed to 7mm International, bedded in a fiberglass(?) stock, and aftermarket iron sights added. My questions concern the chambering itself. Seems like reaming the 7mm BR to International was somewhat common, but what I can't figure out is if this is an actual International or an Int-X chamber. Were all the 7mm BR's essentially reamed to the X version? I know my best bet is a chamber casting, but haven't had a chance.

I've been looking for a set of dies, any difference between a 7mm IHMSA and 7mm International?

If memory serves, Elgin Gates only rechambered 7br's to 7intx. If yours is a "X" it should have been marked as such and will take special dies. As you stated. A chamber cast is the only way to know for sure.

The very first XP's that Elgin rechambered were 7 IHMSA. My brother Charlie had one, and when you fireformed the brass it left a slight ring near the neck. The 7 IHMSA X corrected this problem
