Target topple weight

Post by 64XP-100 »

In the 2016 rules in Section XIII for Ultra 500, there is a definition of the target topple weight for the rams:
The rams shall be set so that it takes between 28 and 32 ounces to pull them over with a trigger pull scale or other scale.

Has anyone measured the topple weight for their targets for other competitions and ranges? I am most interested in the auto-reset targets because they should have the least variability.

Thanks.

Page 14 lists the topple weights for all the animals in all the categories.
At Tusco (in Ohio) we set the BB Rams at the end of the range 24-32 ounce based on a digital Lyman trigger pull gauge pulling on the body at the shoulder just past the horn.

We usually set the other animals by feel and it seems to work out pretty good. Small bore rams set to just topple so vibration from the other animals falling doesn’t knock them down.

Only other animal checked by digital scale is field pistol rams. If not set to spec then .22 Hornet won’t reliably take them.
