Lynn, you are correct. I ended up getting a "short" 10" 30-30 for production class. I am currently working up loads for it.
The load for my 14" barrel didn't work too well, need a faster powder. So...starting with 4227 and playing with it. RCBS 30-165.
But I agree with you , I like rimmed.

Re: 7 supermag questions
Dan, If you can find one of the old RCBS Cast Bullet Manuals or the spiral bound The Complete Reloading Manual for the Thompson/Center Contender both of these books have some good load info for the 30-30 and the 165 grain RCBS bullet. They list loads using 748, H335, IMR 4895, Re7, Unique, Red Dot, and my favorite for cast bullets. SR 4759, which unfortunately has been dropped (again). You have many powders to choose from. You might find 4227 a little too fast but worth a try. If you want a real "puffer" load fill the case about 75% to the base of the bullet with Trail Boss. Don't know if it would have enough steam to knock down rams but sure is fun to lob cast bullets with this powder. I think you will find the old 30-30 can hold its own in the Production classes.
You have given me the urge to find my 10" barrel in the safe and try it at our next match.
