5744 in a 7tcu

Anyone have a starting place for 5744 in 7tcu? I'm using 139-154 Hornadys.

I found this data in the Lee manual
For 139 grain bullets starting load is 18.4 and max is 20.5 velocity 1705 and 1876
For 150 grain bullets starting load is 17.1 and max is 19.0 velocity 1610 and 1772 --- 154 grain bullets not listed
I tried 5744 in my old 30 Herrett and I found at the lower charge levels it left a lot of unburned powder in the cartridge case and bore.

Last month I tried 17.0 with a 150 Remington bulk bullet in my XP and it shot pretty good. I usually blow down the barrel at the end of each bank in case there is a kernel or two of the powder in the barrel. A little dirty about like my AA5744 260 Remington load but can't argue with the accuracy.

Thanks guys. I have a Lee manual. I'm not concerned about a few unburnt kernels. I have about 10 lbs of this stuff. I bought 8 lbs of it for $100.00 a few years ago.

Just a little info I know about 5744.

5744 has the characteristic that the higher the pressures get, the less kernels will be left.

also, There are 2 types of 5744 running around.

If it is marked "Magnum MP-5744", this is surplus powder and has a faster burning rate about the same as H4227. The standard powder is closer to WW680 and is an excellent replacement for it.

I am presently using the surplus powder in my 357Max and I had to drop down 1 Grain compared to the Retail version.

If you are wondering, My load in the 357 Max is 18.0 Grs of surplus MP-5744 with a saeco 200 Gr cast bullet.

I brought this back. I'm going try 110s now. Anyone use 5744 before? I have a bunch of it. I'm trying to get rid of some recoil.

Found my load. Sent a request to the company. Within an hour or so I had their recommended starting and max loads. Thanks Ramshot for the quick response.

I tried the Speer 110 gr TNT bullet on the advice of ole95. I found a load that hammered chickens, pigs and turkeys. No pressure signs and should take them down no problem. I just have to have a ram load and that is fine. Thanks again ole95.

I asked on facebook if anyone had a few I could try. A former shooter friend sent me some. I want to thank him here for the bullets. I have some ordered.

Greg, I dont know what you settled on in a TC, I use a 120gr and 19gr 5744 in a 7-tcu xp. It seems positive enough on rams. rp
