TEXAS SILHOUETTE RANGE

Post by LOCKHART »

I got an e-mail from the match director at Greenwood Gun Club
match director, and he stated that unless entries picked up, he
would most likely have to stop holding IHMSA matches, there.
If this happens, it would be too bad for us Texas silhouette
shooters, as this is one of the nicest ranges in Texas.

It's as easy to set up and run a match to capacity than to run a match for just a few. Plus it's a lot more fun. I hope they can keep their shoots going. Now we see why so many clubs are offering non-sanctioned events. It's just to get people in the door and make it worth our while to be there.

Yeah, I hear you on the non-sanctioned shooting events, we have the
lever action rifle shoots at our range in New Braunfels, Texas. It does
help the club, but really does nothing for IHMSA. I really hope his entries
pick up, I would hate to see this club quit having silhouette matches.

I hate to hear this also. I used to live in Lake Jackson close by there and it is a beautiful place to shoot. I retired, and moved away, at my wife's choosing. Now, I am 4.5hours away and that is a bit far to drive to shoot. When i retired, I had accumulate everything needed to shoot every match that they would have at Greenwood. Then, I retire, and we move! That part sucked!!!

BTW - I am Walter H. (Buddy) Bailey, IHMSA Life - 11061 - I was the match director at GGC in 1978 when we held our first non-sanctioned match. Three of us traveled from there up to Longview (spent the weekend with in-laws about an hour away back then) so we could shoot our first sanctioned match and learn what to do. GGC became sanctioned in 1980 and we held our matches January through September when the Board of Directors shut down all matches for the hunting members each year. I turned over match director duties somewhere around 1986, I think it was.

We held the Texas State match in 1984. I still have the match results stashed away somewhere. Many, many great memories of shooting there at Greenwood Gun Club!!!! :)

I hope some more shooters from the area will help keep it going!!! :ymbringiton:

Buddy, I was there for that 1984 state match, and I thought you did a helluva
job running that match, too. Later on, when Jimmy McDonald took over, he
was a very good match director, also. I just hope that folks that shoot silhouette
in Texas, get behind this range, and keep it going.

I did a "road trip" one weekend years ago and shot a match at Greenwood, when Jimmy McDonald was match director. Had a wonderful time, and shot really well. I did the unthinkable - I beat Gordon Rysavy in S-Int (31x40) !!! and shot into the 100 Club (102x120). If I remember correctly this was in 1996. Thought several times about a return visit, but it never happened. I may need to make an effort to get there soon ! Would be a shame to lose yet another range !

i was the signup person at the 84 state match and have not been to Greenwood since about 86. Am planning on going back this year just to watch and enjoy since I am 79 and getting in the creedmore position is a joke now. Could get there the first time but might still be there when the match was over. I look forward to seeing all the young shooters and watching the excitement they will have.
