Lost Legend #4

Post by 19 Turkeys »

All,

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I inform the membership of the passing of Dave Whitman (IHMSA #19L) last night.

His son called me this afternoon. As it was related to me, he was walking out of his office at home when suddenly his daughter, who lived with him, heard a sound and saw him sink to his knees falling over. Based on his health history, it is surmised that his aorta ruptured and death was instant.

Dave's will requests that he be cremated and no service be held.

This is truly a sad day. I will miss his company at my house the day before matches. This Saturday will be a bit lonely.

Yours,

Steve W.

My condolences to his family. Over the years we have lost several. Tomorrow at work I will try to start a memorial thread, unless someone wants to start it now.

I know many of us have been playing this game for many years but Dave truly was one of the "legends" of IHMSA. He was a great inspiration to many of us. This is a great loss to his personal family and also to his IHMSA family.

Sorry to hear this. Dave was one of the legends of our sport. If my memory is correct he shot the first 40 in revolver. I had the honor of spotting for him two years ago at the west coast championship. Dave was just getting ready to shoot and I had the time to spot for him. I sat down next to him and got set up and Dave looked at me and asked me what I was doing. I told him I was going to spot for him. Dave told me that I did not have to. I told him it would be an honor to spot for him. RIP Number 19L you will be missed.

He did using a Ruger Super Blackhawk. The article is posted in our range office.

Dave Whitman's will specified no services. He just wanted to be cremated & done away with. However, he was one of the first silhouette shooters and accomplished much in his shooting career. Thus, this plaque will hang in the Josephine County Sportsman Association office as a remembrance & memorial.
