NICE!!!! I bet without much work you could relocate the rear sight behind the ejection port and add a new hooded front sight. That should be a shooter!!!!

If you did that, it would exceed the 15" maximum sight radius allowed on Unlimited guns.

You would need to tap the barrel for a new hooded front sight. I'm surprised they would put a vee rear sight and a bead post on a gun. Not at all like their previous silhouette guns. Also that looks like a short sight radius. I'll talk to them at the shot show and see if they have any plans to continue to produce pistols. Maybe a lower cost model without sights? I would guess that a large percentage of the handguns they ever sold are in the hands of IHMSA shooters.

Without removing the front sight from it's dovetail, I don't know if there are two holes already in the barrel or not. I talked with Anschutz about the front sight, since the ad shows a hooded sight. They did some checking and found that the factory had forgot them. He said he will get them from the factory and send them free of charge to those who have bought them.

The sight radius is 10 inches, the same as a Production Contender, which makes it a bit more difficult to precisely align them. 40's are shot with production Contenders in all calibers, so it would be possible with this gun the way it is now.

I was a consultant for Anschutz North America when they wanted to bring the Exemplar back. We discussed the Exemplar at length, it's use in silhouette, and what people would want in the gun, if Anschutz decided to bring it back. As per our discussions, I stated that the majority of silhouette shooters use scopes today, iron sights were not as popular anymore, and most would either remove them for a scope, or replace them with a Bo-Mar/Bond sight set, or set them up with peep sights. I was told after the gun came out that the rear sight location was chosen so that the shooter could mount a scope and not have to remove the sight.

These 100 Exemplars are all Anschutz is going to make, no variations.

Currently I don't have a scope I can use for any serious testing. All I can do is report on how it's doing as is. I did get to go out again last Tuesday and this is the report I posted elsewhere.

"A fine day, little on the cool side, eventually warming up to 57°, windy and nothing but bright sunlight and blue skies. Of course I had to start out shooting the new Exemplar.

Rain shortened the first session last week, so I wanted to concentrate on getting good sight settings at 75 and 100 yards. My initial guesses turned out to be spot on at both distances. I thought the gold bead front sight would be a lot easier to pick up in the sun, but now the light reflects off the bead. No problem, got the carbide smoker out and blackened it up.

Sight picture was much better and, despite the wind, those small clay pieces were easily handled. Shot mostly RWS Special Match that the brown truck delivered yesterday, it did very well, finished the session off with some Eley. No difference in accuracy between the two types, at least not noticeable with iron sights and the sight settings were exactly the same."
