Need some help locating someone

Post by Coogs »

You will have to forgive me, I don't know if this should be posted here, but, Some of you may know that I am into the Maximum in a very big way. Been collecting them since '86, haven't stopped yet. I have been researching the development of the Maximum as well as the cartridge for years. Been recording all Maximum serial numbers I run into just as long. So, we all are aware of the involvement of Elgin Gates and the .357 Super Mag and influence on the Max and/or the other way around. Well that is why I am trying to get the complete story. I was told that Elgin had two sons, you will have to forgive me again as I do not know their names and that one was involved with, and/or was president of IHMSA. If anyone knows how to get a hold of him or if he still frequents this site, I'd really appreciate a PM. Also trying to get a hold of gun writer Rick Jamison, any help out there? Thanks for looking, Coogs

You might want to check the Dan Wesson forum if you haven't done so already.

I remember a post from a few months ago about someone talking to one of Elgins son's and trying to get him to shed some info on the forum. I haven't been on that site lately so I'm not sure where it went. It's worth a shot for you.

Dan Wesson's grandson Eric posts some good info on there also.

One son was Randy and I believe the other was Elgin Jr. Randy continued to sell DW guns and some Redding dies after his father's passing using the old Silhouette business which was owned by the Gate's family and was not part of IHMSA. I haven't contacted Randy in years but believe was located in ID then.

Philip, You are correct, his other son was Robert. Dug out my old Gun Digest book of Metallic Silhouette Shooting and on page 173 is a picture of Elgin and Robert with early unlimited guns. I'm sure his other son was Randy.
