How to show some PH entries on match report

Post by 260 Striker »

OK, shooters who fit into the "normal" PH categories are easy to show on a match report BUT:
What about a PH22 shooter who wants to shoot 1/5 scale. No optic into UFS and with optic into UAFS? Can the PH shooter raise his/her scope higher than 6X? A PH gun can only be 21" while U-guns can be 25". Would it be fair to lump that PH shooter into the normal 1/5 scale categories?
This same situation can also happen in Big Bore if a PH shooter wants to shoot 1/2 size.
Also, if a shooter wants to take his/her normal U-gun and shoot it in PH, which entry should be shot first? I think is should be the normal U or UAS category first then the corresponding PH category OR should the second entry be considered a U or UAS re-entry?
Now my original question.
If a PH shooter does shoot a 1/5 scale or 1/2 size entry, how do I show that on the match report? PH-UFS, PH-UAFS, PH-UHS or PH-UASHS????? No such categories exist and I don't even want to propose those!!!!!!
Now if I just lump the PH guns into the "normal" 1/5 scale and 1/2 size categories, based on optic or no optic, then on the match report I could at least show "PH" in front of their gun description.
All things may not be equal for the PH shooter or even the normal 1/5 scale and 1/2 size shooter since there are differences in gun weights and gun lengths.
Also, on page 8 of the latest rules, "All Practical Hunter' has different class breaks than 1/5 scale and 1/2 size so how would that PH entry be scored if shooting in the 1/5 scale and 1/2 size categories?
If PH type guns become more popular it is only a matter of time before we encounter these types of entries.
I'm not even going to ask about Ultra since our club cannot offer that category.
Just wanted to throw all this out to the public to see how other clubs handle this on their match reports.
Sure wish I would quit reading the rules!!!!!
Thanks for any input.

Lynn, he would shoot the UFS and UFSAS entries along with the other guns - no separate consideration. And, when shooting those categories, he could use any amount of magnification his scope can offer. The Practical Hunter provisions are ONLY for Practical Hunter categories - if he wants to shoot fifth-scale, half-scale, UFS, or UAS - he has to shoot against everyone else ! (as an example - I have used my PH Short course gun to fire a UASHS entry)

PH isn't a gun, it's a category. The rules for the category dictate the configuration & limitations of the gun(s) that can be fired in it, not the other way around.

Indeed, you have too much time on your hands! =))

You're killing me, Lynn. :)) next week you'll be asking why we don't have a category for double barrel deringers... ^:)^ ^:)^

Rich, We let the derringers shoot in the non-member class!!!!!!
You realize there are some single shot derringers too.

So if I have a double barrel derringer, so I need to load it as a single shot? What if I have a 22 barrel over a 357 barrel? Can I shoot PH 22 and PH short course at the same time? What if I use a red dot? I don't want to use a scope, it makes me see too good & I don't want to jump class. We need to make another class, just in case someone wants to do this! LOL! :-q
