30 Herrett loads required

Hi Guys,
A couple of gun changes and additions so new cast loads required. I will open individual enquiries to keep data separate.
Swapped my BF in 7mm Supermag for a BF in 30 Herrett so I can shoot cast exclusively. I wish to shoot 150gr - 165gr boolits. I cannot find any loads for cast as nearly all searching is for the lighter jacketed bullets. Anybody out there with real-world experience or load data from a reliable source? Peter.

1986 IHMSA Shooting Steel book shows 10" 30 Herrett loads. 150 grain CB using 19.0 to 20.5 grains of H4227, or 25.0 to 27.0 grains of H322. I used H322 with a 165 RCBS CB but only 22.0 or 23.0 grains. I would now suggest trying SR4759 with a RCBS 165 CB. Maybe 16.0 or 17.0 grains to start and work up from there. 30 Herrett is a great CB cartridge. Have fun.

I'm trying 4759 & IMR 4198 with a 150 Lee FN I tried sizing to .309 results were OK , I've got a .310 die and some loaded but haven't made it to the range . I'll let you know the outcome. This is with a 10 3/4" T/C

well I made it to the range , the only mold I have for the Herrett is a Lee 150 FN 16.0 gr of 4759 shot real good I think 16.5 will tighten things up a little better. I tried IMR 4198 at 17.8 gr didn't do as well about a 4" group at a hundred- I'll up the charge on those a little ( 18.5 gr maybe) . I had 8or9 rounds left of those so I took the tender off the bags and have a go at the chicken & pig on card board from Creedmore. I was surprised, that 30 Herrett could be a real steel killer. That being said Mr.Herrett will be taking a trip with me to a match . I do believe it would be more accurate with a RCBS or Lyman bullet . Hope this helps Tim

The 30 Herrett makes a great cast bullet gun for silhouettes. RCBS makes both a 150 and 165 grain moulds that would do very well in your Herrett. I once tried some 200 grain bullets at low velocities in my Herrett but really didn't think much of them. I spotted a shooter last Saturday using a 30 Herrett and the RCBS mould made for the 7.62X39. He had some real good groups. He only used that bullet on the chickens through turkeys then switched to the RCBS 165 bullet for rams. Just a little extra insurance for the heavier rams. Sounds like you are getting a good start with your barrel. I'm sure you will find a load that you will really like. Let us know how this project turns out. I may just have to break out my Herrett barrels again.

Well my Herrett will get a try out week after next with both the RCBS 165gr and the NOE 155gr. Looking forward to seeing how it goes.
Also getting my XP7mmBR re-barrelled to 30BR so will have two 30 cal toys to play with. Hopefully both the Herrett and 30BR will like either of the 165gr or the 155gr boolits. Peter

I have an XP in 30BR. Tried some RCBS 150s in it but really didn't try to work up a load for accuracy. Shot it with jacketed bullets at last IHMSA match and was happy with a load I just threw together. If you have trouble finding 30BR dies, give CH4D in Marion, OH a call. Got my dies there and there are very well made dies. Good luck with both projects. I will be interested in your 30BR experiment too. If I get some cast loads worked up for my 30BR I will post on this list. In the meantime, I welcome any other comments about 30BR cast loads.

I think I have found my load.

Shot a 40 shot match in the weekend whilst getting sight settings and shot a 35. The misses were the first chicken, first pig and first three rams. Load is 17.5gr of ADI 2205 (4227) with the 1656gr RCBS.

I also shot some of the NOE155gr but not enough to have confidence in it yet. I will shoot a match with the 155gr NOE and report back.
