We had another lightly attended match this month with only myself and one other IHMSA shooter plus one NRA rifle shooter. Bill Hyde tried a couple of different Ruger revolvers in Standing category and finished with a 22X40 and a 20X40. I managed a decent Production score of 38 using cast bullets, missing only 2 turkeys. The Half Scale critters continue to give my old eyes trouble but I did topple 26 of them. Turkeys, once more, were the majority of my missed targets. My big disappointment was with my DW revolver entry. I had a new cast bullet load that I wanted to try and had only sight settings for chickens. Considering that I was shooting with no spotter and sighting the gun in as I went, I did OK on the first two distances and hit a few turkeys but could not get on the rams at all. I finished with a dismal 24X40. At the end of the day, I got Bill to spot some additional shots for me at 200 yards to try to get a handle on it. We learned that my bullets were losing stability past 100 yards and were corkscrewing their way down range. The light today allowed him to see the flight of the bullet with the spotting scope. I guess I’ll have to try a different bullet. Scores below.
