My work keeps me from attending as many matches as I would like. This coupled with the number of different guns one is forced to choose between at the matches I get to attend makes things even harder. I would like to let the rule go away. Life would be much simpler.

It sounds like your position is legal, just be sure no part of the gun touches the ground. Your findings are in complete agreement with mine. The chickens may be the closest but there isn't enough steel out there for me to hit them all every time. Even from the freestyle positions I always breath a great sigh of relief when I finish the chickens.
