Acceptable Revolvers

Just checking to make sure where I need to go. With some revolvers being eliminated because of porting, which I don't really care for anyway, the field of acceptable revolvers in Revolver class and Production class and Standing seems to be S&W, FA and Dan Wesson at least for 41mags. Are there any other choices with 8"or longer barrels? Some of the afore mentioned are slightly on the costly side. I'm to old to save that long. Just wondering.

A Ruger Hunter in 41 Mag is only 1/2" shorter at 7 1/2". I haven't tried mine yet for IHMSA. I have been shooting a 10" SS Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44 mag for years with respectable results, for me anyway, if you want to step up to a 44 mag. I use cast bullets and wimpy loads so I'm probably in the 41 mag range of power anyway. The FAs have pretty well set the bar for IHMSa revolvers. Great guns and I've owned two of them but really didn't shoot them as well as my old trusty Ruger SB. Great thing about IHMSA shooting, its all one big game so shoot what you like and feels best, have fun and don't worry about scores.

If you want to go old school and can find them, the El Dorados, Sevilles and Virginia Dragoon Silhouette revolvers are very accurate too. Might find some 41 mags in those brands. Probably find more 357s (mags and SMs) and 44 mags though. I've had three of the VD Dragoons, still have one, and they are well built and accurate guns.

Great question and you will get tons of replies saying "buy an FA". Me, I will give up some targets but will stick to my Rugers.
