Not sure if this is the right place for this, Moderator can move if not. But I have the usual failing sight that happens to most of us 50 and up. I can either see the sights in focus (pistol) and target is very blurry or the other way around. Any type of glasses or contacts and type of prescription availabe?
Any advice is appreciated'

I shoot with some guys that use "diopters" on their glasses. This is a small disc with a very small diameter hole in it. They come in many, many configurations. The guys I shoot with mostly have the 'suction cup' design. They figure out where it needs to be placed on their glasses so that it forces your eye to focus through this very small hole. It works like a camera aperture if you are camera savvy. I'm going to have to get one of these diopters so I can shoot my Freedom Arms 22LR I just purchased!

I switched to Peep on Peep sights. With this set up I can ignore the rear sight and just center the fuzzy target in the middle of the front peep. I am actually shooting better scores than I did 20 years ago when the sights were clear.

I have switched to scopes mostly but shoot the occasional iron sight entry just to prove how bad my eyes are now. I have been taking multivitamins for eyes that contain luteins. I asked my eye doctor about these vison vitamins about 5 years ago and he recommended them. I used to have floaters all the time even shooting scoped guns and they have all disappeared now. Not a cure all for iron sights but it does improve aging eyes and I will take all I can get. Wally World has their house brand of vison vitamins and they all have the same ingredients as the brand name Ocuvite vitamins. Vitamins in general can improve your overall health but this type is targeted to improve eye health.

Another option although a little more expensive is a set of shooting glasses along the lines of the Champion, knobloch, and a few others. You can buy accessories as you need them, different lenses, adjustable iris, blinders, etc. I finally went with a pair of Champion shooting glasses. The nice thing about the glasses is you just put them on and everything is lined up, not haveing to worry about where you place the merit device. If you wear prescription lenses you can even have those installed in the lens holder.

Just had cataract surgery for left eye last week and all I can say is WOW! I can see again. Will get right eye done two days from now. If you have reached the age where cataracts are a problem, don't put off getting your eyes fixed. It is amazing to realize what I couldn't see these past few years. Hope this will make shooting iron sights fun again.

Ive been shooting IHMSA for 31 years, now, and I had my
cataracts done this year. It sure does make a difference in
seeing the sights. Hope to get back into iron sights next year
now that I can see em! Ive been shooting just the UAS with
a red dot.
