The Wichita MK-40 has a 3-lug left-handed bolt suitable for right-handed shooters. The 3-lug bolt means you get a 60-degree bolt lift instead of 90 degrees as with a 2-lug bolt. The gun has a 4-position adjustable rear sight and a globe front sight with replaceable inserts that is also adjustable for height (so you don't have to fiddle with the 4-position rear if you need more or less elevation). The original owners manual is included.
This package includes not only the pistol but a set of Bonanza (I think now sold by Forster) reloading dies and enough brass (373 pieces) to keep you supplied to the end of days.
The dies included are a full length sizer, a neck sizer, and the benchrest seater die. I don't have the micrometer adjustment for the benchrest die but I created something similar by attaching a large washer to the top of the seater stem and marking it in increments.
The lot of 373 cases is broken down as follows:
Bag of 118 pieces fired a few times, neck sized, primed, and ready to load.
Bag of 106 pieces that have been fireformed, neck sized. 100 are primed and 6 are not primed.
Bag of 100 pieces, fired, cleaned and ready to be sized.
Currently in the MTM box (box not included):
21 cases that have been fired. Not clean or anything, just fired.
28 cases that are currently loaded. Since no one is likely to want to trust someone else's reloads, (even assuming I could jump through the hoops needed to ship live ammo) I will be pulling the bullets, saving the powder for re-use, and just leaving these as primed cases.
All of the brass included here is in good condition and will last many loadings, especially if you use my preferred load.
Regarding the load, the one I have found best for this gun is a Remington 150Gr PSP bullet over 29 Gr of H-322 sparked off by a Winchester PISTOL primer. A standard [NOT Magnum] pistol primer. So all the primed brass has Winchester Large Pistol Primers. Rifle primers (even Federal match) gave less accuracy.
I have never chronographed this load but looking at a variety of manuals, I estimate it should be around 2000fps. From the manuals, it seems to be about the starting load for this powder and bullet weight. It is a relatively mild load for a bolt action unlimited gun but never failed to take down any steel I hit with it.
Note that the complete package will need to be sent in two separate shipments. My local FFL dealer handling the shipment said that primed brass cannot be shipped with the a firearm. I will have to ship the brass and dies separately via UPS.
Shipping for the gun itself includes the $75 outgoing transfer fee paid to my local dealer plus UPS second day air charges. I will cover anything over $25 for the UPS charges to ship the gun so that part will be capped at $100. Shipping for the brass will also be via UPS but will be via ground service. The box with the brass and dies weighs about 12 pounds. Cost for that will depend on the buyer's location and will be between $18 and $46 for the lower 48 states. AK and HI will be extra. If you want to know the total for the UPS charges send me a message with your ZIP code.
