Load data for the 30 Max is scarce to say the least. Since the 30 Max has a greater case volume than the 300 Whisper / 30 BO, I have always used a "middle of the road" load from 300 Whisper data as a starting point. I then work up my loads from there.

My favorite load for my 30 Max is 168 Sierra MK and AA1680. I haven't tried the other 2 powders you mentioned.

did the 1680 burn clean for you ( any granules left in the barrel ? ) so to speak. In using a very light bullet for 30 cal just curious as may have to use a faster powder. Thanks, Bruce

Bruce, I'm getting old and CRS. I generally don't worry about unburned powder as long as the accuracy is there.

I use 20-21 grains of 2015 in my 270 Max with bullet weights ranging from 115-140. Accuracy has always been reasonably good. Yes, there are occasionally some unburned grains.

Would anyone explain what the 30 Max is to me?
I’ve been an avid shooter/reloader for 4+ decades, but not familiar with the wildcat.
Parent case, case forming, and any sort of load data (or where to find it) would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I think the 30 Maxi is a 357 maximum case necked down to 30 caliber!! I have never owned one, but did own a 270 maxi! Very, very accurate!! Wheelgun

Thanks, I assumed it was based on the Maxi case, but wanted to be sure.
I “think” it was mentioned elsewhere that a 300 BO die was used to form the case, but again I’m looking for any info pertaining to the cartridge because I might opt to use it in an RPM pistol.

I’ve been unable, so far, to find any drawings or case dimensions.

I appreciate the help.

If you go this route, you will need to anneal the 357 Max case in the area that will be the neck and shoulder of the 30 Max. It's a rimmed case, so it extracts nicely from a TC. The cost to convert a bolt gun to it gains nothing over a 30/223 cartridge that is loaded down a bit. We shot in Brazil about 20 years ago, they were necking down a 357 Magnum to 30 cal. Cute little bugger.

Thanks… Were dedicated dies used, or was case-forming and loading done by using a common die set with the Maxi parent case?
One gentleman thought the Maxi case was simply full-length sized in a 300BO die to form and reload…. Does that sound correct?
