Have a project in mind. 25-20 14' for big bore. Is it possible? I don't mind using different loads on different animals. I suppose I would need a 1 in 10 twist to stabilize 117-120 grain bullets for rams. Has anyone loaded this round for big bore?
I want to set it up with peep sights for prone. Please don't want to hear all the others I could use. 7tcu, (I have). 30-20 would be OK. 6tcu maybe. .30 Reece possible. Just want to run with light recoil and no muzzle brake. The quarter bore just intrigues me.

19turkeys gave me some load information for my 25-20, 10-3/4" barrel, Practical Hunter, and Field Pistol. Perhaps he can assist you.

I have no experience with this round but would suggest having longer throat on chamber to use the longer/heavier bullets. Short throat would make you deep seat the 117/120 grain bullets and you are already starting with a small powder room in the 25-20. Sounds interesting.

Also brass availability could be a real issue. Good luck and keep us posted.

Greg, I really don't think it will work because you will ring the rams. Stuart had me build him a 25/221 Imp. and he tried it and rang the rams. He was using 117 gr. Sierra's. It was shot out of a 14 7/8 inch XP-100. With this happening, he has decided to use it for 1/2 scale. You can talk to him or send him an email at
sbarrett@centralstatesmfg.com good luck if you decide to do the project.

I tried it as s Standing gun. Rings rams. A 30-20 would be better.

It is relatively easy to re-form 32-20. Factory 25-20 is very rare.
If you look at Star Line's website in regards to this case, they are constantly being peppered with comments regarding making new brass. This cartridge is popular in Cowboy Silhouette but I doubt Star Line will ever make it new since it is simple to make from 32-20 which they DO make.

Greg, You might consider the 30 Reece as an alternate, or the .300 Whisper. I wasnt too sure of the reliability of the Reece on rams. Using a 165 RCBS bullet, it does well. The 300 of course offers more performance due to the larger case capacity. There are some TC 300 barrels around. I think the Reece is an aftermarket only. You will have some trajectory to decipher. Another one to consider is the .30 Carbine. Again, using the RCBS 165 it does well. rp

greg, I shoot both, the reese and the .300. I have never rang a ram that I hit with the reese. I use it for standing. I will say this about it, on auto reset the rams go down sllooow. 25/221 imp. will take rams down with 117-120 bullets. stuart has shot some 40's and 60's with his xp-25/221 imp.
