Just posted on the Anschutz North America website, the Exemplar is being produced again, as the Anschutz 1416 Silhouette pistol. Only 100 guns will be made, and you can get them through Champion Shooters Supply. MSRP $1099. I have mine on the way.

Wow, $1100! Guess my Exemplar mid grip's value just went up! Not for sale BTW!

I've seen a few used Exemplars on GB for $900-$1000, asking price, of course.

Dang, I don't feel so bad about the 10" Anschutz I paid $1200 for last year. Did I mention it came with a 10" Buckmark with the Ram engraved on the bolt?

Reading all of the spec`s this one is a little better than the orginal one,the sights look more user friendly, and the trigger is adjustable for length.

Old eyes is it scope ready?

From the pic you cant tell if it has the 11 mm groove? it should though,the original had them.
FWIW:If you going to make a flop gun out of a Anschutz,use the Weaver 92A base, placed at where the barrel goes in the receiver and drilled and tapped to the barrel will work perfect for the higher powered scopes.Then just trim the bottom grip enough to clear the ground.

It is the 11mm groove, standard Anschutz.

Thanks for the tip, but no flop gun here. If I scope it later, it will get a Leupold 2.5-8x handgun scope.

Range Report on new Exemplar, which arrived last Monday.

Sorry no pics yet. It's been terrible weather for pictures, rainy and dense fog.

Well, I made it to the range Last Tuesday. It was raining and foggy with about 10-15 mph winds. We don’t start shooting until noon. The forecasts were for the rain to stop around noon and be just cloudy the rest of the day, but colder and more windy. Any other week I wouldn’t have made the 30-minute one-way trip out there, but I wanted to shoot the new gun and hoped the forecasts were wrong. They weren’t. It was way too muddy to go down and set up any paper targets, and too windy for any really meaningful results, so I just set the gun up on a front rest and rear brick bag, same as I use for a lot of other handguns.

Started out zeroing the gun at 25 yards. The rear sight is exactly the same as a newer version used on the Contender. Probably the same outfit makes them for both companies. The shots with the iron sights were 5” right of my aiming point, which is normal for me and a lot of guns I bought over the years. Since I shoot left-handed, I have found many to impact right, and I need to add a lot of left windage. No problem, got it adjusted and the rear sight was 12 clicks from the bottom with a 6 o’clock hold. With my other guns, I try to set the rear sight up so that it is about 10-15 clicks from the bottom with that aiming point. That gives me room to adjust downward for a zero holding dead on at 25 yards for the small 1/5th scale targets. Targets were small pieces of broken clays on the berms. Went to 50 yards next, 2 clicks up got it on target with some more windage adjustments.

Shot a lot at 50 yards, the small pieces didn’t stand a chance. Got a quick zero at 75 and 100 yards, seemed about the same number of clicks up I would take with other guns. By this time the wind was about 20 mph+ and it was getting colder. Then it started to rain again, so I packed up and went home. I hate getting my guns and stuff wet. Was only shooting about an hour.

Ammo used was Eley Target, not the best, but it is my normal silhouette ammo and it never misses. In my Unlimited Fifth-Scale gun, a converted XP-100, in all the years I have shot it in matches from the creedmore position, I have only missed one target, a ram at 100 yards, where the crosshairs were just above the back when I let the shot loose, all my error. With accuracy like that on those tiny targets, I have a lot of confidence in that ammo. Of course, I also have the higher flavors of Eley, and a little RWS ammo. I’ve noticed over the years, all my Anschutz guns have a preference for RWS, what a surprise since they are both made in Germany, but Eley runs very, very close.

With the rain and wind and limited testing of 65 total rounds, I was impressed with it so far. My 100 yard shots were still right, but I let it go then due to the strong winds pushing that direction. The gun handles exactly like I expected it to, compared to the other Exemplars. Glad to see the bullet is engraved into the rifling, ignition looked very good on the fired brass. I really like that Anschutz 5098 trigger, it’s better than the original Exemplar. I’m used to the two-stage trigger on these, and the second stage let-off seemed to me to be around 6 ounces, instead of the 9.85 ounces of the older guns. The only thing I had problems with was not the gun’s fault. Had a hard time picking out that gold bead front on the very dark wet berms. Next time I will have to use my sight smoker.

If I get another decent day to go to the range (open only on Tuesdays if it’s over 45 degrees and not raining) before the spring, I will head back out there for some more fun. Might have to cannibalize a scope from another gun to really get some good testing in and that will probably have to wait until spring.
