I can help - Where is help needed?

Post by Hosspower »

After reading nutcase offer help in another thread I thought it might be good to have a help offered thread.

Thanks to smartphones I am able to check emails and the forum a few times throughout the day and evenings. I am volunteering to help in any way I am able to.

Please, any directors reading that are reading list areas that could use help. Hopefully then members with skill in that area will offer to help.

By trade I am a draftsman. I design parts, mainly sheet metal and plate in a 3D program called 'creo' formerly pro/engineer. I also program a CNC laser, punch machine and press brakes. One project my brother and I started working on in the summer was making pull rope reset targets for small bore and field pistol. I made 1 bank of small bore bore chickens for a local range to look at and approve shooting at them. The company I work for offered to make and sell these targets at cost to the local club. We are still waiting on $$$ approval. The shale boom hasn't started paying royalties yet and we are assuming once that happens we will get approval. Our hope was to start field pistol and small bore matches there, hopefully have attendance grow and become an IHMSA sactioned range for small bore and field pistol. The range is only 156 yards long so big bore is out. If any of you are on the IHMSA facebook page I posted a picture of the chicken bank on the tailgate of my truck. I need to make a few changes from the 1st design but they should work well.

the first place to help is with your local club. doing things like setting up and taking down the range during a match, or helping out the match director (such as calling the line, etc) Is greatly appreciated by them. it makes their life easier and sometimes allows them to shoot an entry.

BUT, it sounds like you are already doing that as you are trying to get a new range started!

Most of what I have offered is to make Cindy smith's and the match directors jobs easier, mainly by creating electronic versions of the Forms used by IHMSA. and I can help out maintaining the website and forums.

It helps that I am classified as an Old Timer and have seen the growth and changes of IHMSA.

and last, I have had a long term offer that if anybody wants to try my guns, I will gladly provide the gun and ammo for them to try. But, most of my BB guns are classified as Antiques (I still shoot Wichita's) and my BB guns can be brutal :D :D

forgot, you are doing the single best thing for IHMSA is to get a new range started.

Back when I started shooting IHMSA, there were 14 active clubs shooting IHMSA in California. Today though we have only 3 active clubs left :(

Thank you for your offer to help. It is greatly appreciated.

Do you have a Region director?

Positions that we really need filled are: President and Secretary / Treasurer.
These may be too much, too soon but perhaps someone else will see your willingness to help and step up to one of those positions.

Thank you again.
Well done sir.
Shoot well and shoot often.

Last I heard Brian Gildea was my new regional director.

Travel is a problem for me also. I attend all matches at Tusco and I can make 1 or 2 matches at LHA but beyond that I don't have the funds or vaction time from work. Tusco is a 2.5 hour drive each way. LHA is closer to 4 hours each way.

I help with what I can at Tusco but for anyone that has attended a match there knows what a well oiled machine those guys run.

I would be glad to do the Secretary/treasurers job since I have over 30 years accounting experience but I cannot afford to go to the Internationals so I guess I'm not qualified?
Gee Whiz, Take the job & provide a report to someone that is going to the Internationals. Problem solved!

After nearly a quarter century away I came back last year and volunteered for Region 3 since I understood it was vacant for a few years.

Still getting my "footing" and soliciting opinions on what we can do in Region 3 this year.

If anyone wants to chat, has suggestions etc please email me at
IhmsaR3@gmail.com

I'd be thrilled to talk to anyone! I'm barely ambulatory but shall endeavor to visit ranges in the Region this year.

I have a couple ideas to bounce off the membership once they're more polished but would appreciate any and all constructive thoughts and opinions.

I plan on contacting the State Directors and match directors in R3 in the coming month while we're all in "hibernation".
