I am looking at a contender barrel in the above mentioned but have not been able to find much information on it. Does anyone shoot this caliber? and what are your thoughts. Could not find much on reloading for it either.

Thanks for that Steve, I have read that previously but was concerned about the velocities mentioned damaging the targets.

Run a Sierra 142 grain bullet at 2100 FPS and you have no issues with target damage. You are only gaining 300 FPS over a 6.5 BR. Do you really need that extra velocity?

No, don't need the extra velocity. I assumed the caliber was a bit like the 38 / 357, a dual purpose one. Don't know much about it so asked the question. Have done a few google searches and there isn't much comes up. Would also need to find a projectile for it, down here we are not allowed jacketed in anything other than revolver.

that is a nice looking projectile in the link Steve. I don't know a Rob, you might have me confused with someone else.
All this info you are feeding me is making the 6.5 more and more appealing.

I my opinion a 6.5mm is the ideal caliber. BR or BRM, I think you will be happy. The advantage of the BR is using Lapua 6 BR brass necked up. It is wonderfully uniform.

this was the first barrel I bought for imhsa use besause of the availability of loaded ammo, formed brass and the 6.5 cal,after working with it a while I found the brass life of eabco brass was 3 loadings-neck splits,i started forming my own brass which required creating a false shoulder because your moving the shoulder so far forward-I am up to 6 loadings with it though
I have since went to a 6.5 tcu as I was picking up bad habits from recoil,i can still get a 33 BB uas score with it though,36 at this last match

NOE Moulds makes a fantastic 145 grain 6.5 mould. I just bought a two cavity mould and cast up some bullets out of linotype but have not had a chance to try in my 6.5 BR yet. I was able to buy a two cavity NOE mould cheaper than either a Lyman or RCBS 6.5 mould. The NOE is not a bore rider design but a very streamlined spire point with a very small flat tip. If looks can make a bullet shoot well then this one should be very accurate. I plan to try some SR4759, probably 19.0 grains since that already works well with my jacketed loads.
