I've had been shooting the 140 SMK on 500M rams for the last 10 years at the annual Sept. fun shoot at A.P. Goodrich range Alma, Mi. I've not rang any of 120 rams shot so I've been very happy with it's performance. I'm shooting a 15" 6.5 Bullberry Imp. TC with 7X Burris scope. Muzzle velocity is 2000 fps.

Might make sense for the 7-30 Waters barrel that was "free" with a recent Contendender frame purchase. My usual range has a full Buffalo Rifle range, but I suspect it will be a wee bit difficult to convince the "powers that be" to allow handguns!

Would love to try my 6br, it shoots pretty well with 100 grain Hornady. Have tried the Sierra 107 but never serious enough to make a solid test on paper. Usually this gun is used for half-scale with 87 grain bullets and a sissy load of SR4759.

I also have a Sako in 250 Savage Improved. Not as accurate, but my ram load is a boomer. Even the sissy loads with 100 grain Midway blems will crater rams at my range.

Other option is to get serious with the 6.5x47 Lapua. Not sure if it's me or the gun, just never felt as comfortable with it as the 6.5 br.

I just hate load testing....spending hours at the range... no wife.... no kids....embarrassing other shooters by shooting quarters at 100y... or clay targets at 200m...I just hate it

If they don't want you to shoot during their match offer to shoot on the other day of the weekend they shoot. If you do shoot with them the scoped handguns will shoot better scores than their black powder guns. They might not like that and might not invite you back. Try to work something out with them. From the interstest the Ultra 500 has been generating so far, we'll need as many ranges as we can find.

Having shot BPCR silhouette for a while, with some great shooters, one a National Champion, I would not be too sure you will beat them. And, considering they shoot chickens offhand, the scores may be closer than you think. The BPCR rifles are surprisingly accurate, and these guys know how to dope the wind.

Talked to a modern rifle silhouette shooter yesterday whilst confusing myself on FP sight settings at Riverbend GC , and learned that they are eager to get more shooters. Apparently, scoped handguns are already OK for this range, so maybe doing an IHMSA match during the rifle match is doable without lots of drama!

Currently, looks like the third weekend of the month, but not always shooting steel. I think some months are done on paper on the NRA High Power range.
May 20th is set up day, I'm apt to be at the range that day, anyway, so will wander over and see if we can join in, if any of you folk are interested. I wouldn't mind spotting, but being new to IHMSA BB, don't feel ready to make the jump to Ultra, yet!

Well, didn't make the meet, but DID throw money at an old Winchester 1885 in 38-55 (w/#4 contour octagon barrel and vintage fancy sights), so should have an excuse to head to the BPCR range at some point! (Just need to pay off the balance owed on the rifle, round up brass and bullet mould, etc.)
