Hooded Front Sight Question

Post by jmoore »

I have a front sight base pretty much like the EABCo/Bond hooded sight, but the hood is slightly different (enough to not want to go using the EABCo hood) and the front sight thread is 8-36 rather than 8-32. I'm missing the hood, but i'd like to use it with the 8-36 thread.

Does anyone know who made sights with the 8-36 sight post thread? :-\

there were 3 known makers:

1. Bomar/Bond custom was one
2. Lansing was another
3. EABCO is the present one. The spacing between the screws are different though on them.

I have 8 spares and should be able to get you setup.

Thanks!
The 8-36 thread is specific to my search. Whether there's a sufficiently tall base remains in question with the front sight posts I want to use. It would be easy enough to make some, but that puts the whole works into Unlimited.

Lansing also made a front sight for the MOA, but I am not sure of the post threads.

ok, I have to ask! What gun is this for that you need a hood?

I checked my front sights and only one of them had an 8-36 post. this one came from Australia though. (I got it in a trade).

Most of my sights have 10-32 for the posts though. most of these are for a BF, Contender or XP-100.

I checked my MOA and it has a 10-32 post. Since the gun originally belonged to Ken Light, the sight could have come from anywhere!

another that used 8-36 was a freedom Arms silhouette front sight. This uses a unique hood that clamps under the sight. both the front sight and hood are available from Freedom arms.

after I know which gun it is for, we can go from there..

Also, The height is adjustable on all of these for the post...

the selected victims are BFs and TCs. The 8-36 front sight thread is to use KNS and Ultradyne AR-15 posts. I made a run front posts a couple of years ago in 8-32, 10-32 and maybe a couple of other thread formats with holes bored through the end opposite the threads, ranging from 0.032" to a bit over 0.100" Folk liked the peep sizes from 0.047" to about 0.090". Mostly around 0.062". Sold 20 or 30. But never advertised except locally.
Just found the KNS and Ultradyne versions of what I've been calling the Hole In Post (HIP) sight, and was hoping they could be utilized somehow.

If I knew of a Weaver or 1913 base the would fit the TC or BF on the front, I'd just attach an AR front sight!
