When shooting a 22 Hornet for Field Pistol for CPT (not Rams), what is the optimum bullet weight?
40? 45? 50? Heavier? Lighter?
Why is your choice the best? What are the plusses and minuses?

Re: Bullet weight for CPT
My solution was to sell the Hornet barrels and switch to the 25-20. One bullet, one load & no rung rams. 5.5 grains of VV 340, Hornady 87 grain bullet, 7 1/2 primers. 1387 FPS.

Re: Bullet weight for CPT
I have always used 55 gr Hornady SP on all four targets and sometimes RCBS 55 gr cast. I can't remember ever ringing any target that I put a full bullet on.SteveJewels wrote: Tue Dec 05, 2023 8:22 am When shooting a 22 Hornet for Field Pistol for CPT (not Rams), what is the optimum bullet weight?

Re: Bullet weight for CPT
Ditto on what Charlie said - I use the Hornady 55 grain SP, with a moderate load using Accurate #9. Used this load in both of my TC FP guns, and in a MGM 14" Hornet barrel for Practical Hunter. I have NEVER lost a solidly hit target with any of my guns using this load. I also shot my 14" barrel once at a Big Bore match in UASHS - fired a 39x40 with it (missed ram #1)
