Picatinny on old T/C Contender Barrels
Picatinny on old T/C Contender Barrels
I'm picking up a few used and inexpensive scopes to convert a couple of T/C Contender barrels for us in Practical Hunter. Been looking for risers that set the scope farther back to make up for poor eye relief of these pistol scopes in Creedmore. I'm only finding Picatinny style stuff and my barrels have the KL sight ribs. The Picatinny rings, risers, etc. don't fit. On at least one of the barrels I'll install a Picatinny rail. Looking for brand and source recommendations for Picainny rail for old original T/C Contender barrels. Has anyone had experience with this?

I found that the Tasco Pro Class 4X scope had enough eye relief with just the Weaver 92A scope mount. Or you might try turning the mount around and filing the base until it fits. I'm experimenting with doing that to a Picatinny mount which will give me another 3 to 4 inches of relief depending on what type of scope used. Or Picatinny has a riser that fits on a Weaver mount that will get you the 3 to 4 inches relief. Depends if you want to mess around with a lot of filing.

I'm not all that hand so not looking to file anything. Was thinking about taking it to a good gunsmith but that will cost more than finding the right part. I found something that looks like it will work at opticsplanet.com. Evolution Gun Works T/C Contender Picatinny Rail Scope Mount to replace the KL sight rib. Hope this works.

Go on the internet and Google "extended scope base riser". I got mine today and it's like shooting off a KL reverse mount. It mounts on a Weaver 92a mount and gives you plenty of eye relief and not really expensive. You can also get a mount that is not the high type. Whichever you choose.
