FLOP GUNS, YES ON NO?
Re: FLOP GUNS, YES ON NO?
I've been thinking about trying revolver in flop. At least small bore. Laying on my belly with arms out. The old IHMSA books I have show guys doing this.

Dave, Back then they just called that shooting prone. Don't know how the term flop got started. I can't get my head pulled back far enough in flop without getting a neck ache. Are you going to try my old Ruger in the flop?

Re: FLOP GUNS, YES ON NO?
There is a difference between prone and true flop i was told
I shoot prone which was popular before Creedmore
True flop (Fields flop) as I was told in OKC you shoot crossed eyed
Righthanded shooter shoots with left eye hopfully Jackie or someone will
Chime in on this and clarify

OK. I will be shooting prone. I am going to first try small bore with my dads single six. sweet trigger and real accurate. I will try to hold up my end of the deal. If I can do this in small bore I might try it in big bore but probably with my DW 357 maximum. Lynn, I sold your Ruger to my brother. Needed some cash. This old truck restoration is just a money pit.260 Striker wrote:Dave, Back then they just called that shooting prone. Don't know how the term flop got started. ole95 is correct on the fields Flop,I don`t do it exactly that way because it requires getting your face to close to the scope.I have to be carefulole95 wrote:There is a difference between prone and true flop i was told

not to get dinged from the recoil even with the tank brake,or in small bore, my neck has been fused and I have 2 steel plates.I hold just far enough back to get a full view of the 36x scope.I have watched ole95 shoot, he and I are real close to the same way other than I`m a lefty. And we both like the color "red"

There are some still doing it,Richard Redd used peep on peep on some of his small, and big bore guns.John Anderson is a World champion. He uses a Ruger in small bore with peep on peep,I have spotted from him he cleaned all shoot off chickens at the Internationals in 2012.Hosspower wrote:I've been thinking about trying revolver in flop. The prone has been around has long as I have,we had several doing it back in the 80`s.Jim Holden used a Dever XP 7x250 with a a max load,in a center grip stock and shot many 40`s.and he used a 30/30 Contender in production.
My first match in 78 I shot prone, with a DW 357 mag, 6 in barrel. That was the first time I had seen creedmore position, when I started back in 80 I used creedmore just to be like the others.

FLOP GUNS, YES ON NO?
For me the answer is NO. I setup an Anschutz Exemplar several years ago and shot two Matches at Lower Burrell in PA. The first score was a 39. I missed my first Ram due to not changing my sight setting. The second was a 40. Way to easy and no challenge what so ever. Have not shot Flop since and the Exemplar is a safe queen. I found out why I only shoot standing classes. Hard to master but more of a challenge.
