I know that this has been touched on over at Specialty Pistols, but since this is an IHMSA question, it should be here. Maybe alot more answers to be had over here as well.
I have an as-new factory XP in 223 that I will get my hands on tomorrow. I would kinda like to try it out for 1/2 scale. I have been using SR 4759 as my go-to powder for everything, but not too sure how it will work for this. Anyone have any loads that woukd and keep below 2400 fps as to not damage any targets? I do know that I am limited by the factory twist. I may have to give McGowen a call. They did a wonderful job on the barrel for my 7br.
Thanks alot.

Mike

I've been using 25 grains of 748, Federal small rifle primers, and a Sierra 53 grain HP match bullet for many years. I can't say about target damage...we have mild steel targets and I ding them up some but not too bad. This load really works well for me in my XP .223

25 gr of 748 will do more than just ding mild steel. That load should be pushing 2700fps. That will damage T1 targets. At 50yds it will probably shoot at least half way through 1/2" thick mild steel.

It does ding them pretty good with our mild steel targets that we have here....but doesn't go half way thru. I'm the guy that repairs the targets and I would hate to think that I would tear them up without noticing this. I would have thought if the mild steel targets could take the hits the T-1 would be fine. But we don't have any T-1 so I can't say for sure.
