How much ammo?

I plan on going to the Region 2 Championship. I have never been to any IHMSA match save my local club.

How much ammo should I bring per gun? Assume if you will that Gods grace shines upon me & I actually do reasonably well.

Thanks!
Bob

I always take 100 rounds for each gun I intend to shoot. For a 60 round match thats 60 for the match 5 for sighters and 35 for shootoffs if I make one. 35 rounds for shootoffs is 34 more than I really need.

Hey Bob. Well first, I hope that you do come on up. It would be great to meet ya. Second, It is going to be a 60 round match. And then you always need extra. I plan on having 100 rounds per gun.

100 rounds is it? I was planning on bringing 3-400!

One thing I dont get (or am just to stupid to figure out) is this notion of a 60 round match. I am assuming that there is shooting to be done past the 1st 40 targets then (a 40 is undiscovered country for me)?

Also just out of curiosity as I am in no danger of it being applicable to me... How does an 80X80 work, or more to the point what is the course of fire to reach it?

Thanks!
Bob

For a 60 round match you simply shoot 15 before moving to the next target for a 80 round match you simply shoot 20. Many years ago the Ga boys talked about a 100 round match they held. Usually 100 rounds is plenty for each entry unless you get into a really long shootoff with someone.

It is a good rule to take about half again as much as you will need for the match. So, 100rds is a good number for a regional. I know of an occasion in which several people loaned ammo for a shooter to compete in Field Pistol, so extra ammo is helpful even if you dont use it. If you get in one of those UAS marathons you'll be glad you have it.
I'm probably the only one (actively shooting) who remembers the 100rd Ga state match of 1979 or 80. There were no set conventions so we shot 40 one day, 40 the next and 20 on the 3rd. We had a fellow drive up (to the DeKalb Range near Lithonia) who had a 30-30 10'' and forgot to grab his ammo. He shot factory 30-30 that he bought at a K-Mart. I'm sure Steve Arnett remembers.

100 rounds is a good number to bring for a 60-round match. Also, if you have one, I always brought a back-up gun and ammo in case the planned gun broke. At least you could finish the match that way.

I shoot Contenders a lot. So I always pack a extra frame. If one breaks I have another to fall back on. Conversley if my XP breaks I also have a TC and extra ammo to fall back on.
