TOP SHOT SILHOUETTE
QUITMAN, LA
MARCH 18, 2017
BY: CHARLIE BRAUD

Our first match of the year was lightly attended with only myself and my brother Philip representing IHMSA. We did have several NRA Cowboy Lever Action Silhouette shooters to boost our participation.
Philip was the first gun on the line with his UAS 300 Whisper XP100 and he finished with his usual 40X40.
I followed right behind with my UAS 7TCU XP100 with cast bullets and also cleaned all the targets. Philip decided to try his T/C Contender in 22 Hornet for a Half Scale entry. This is his PHSC gun with a mild load using 55 grain spire points. He had no sight settings beyond 100 yards and with me spotting and a swag on the 150 and 200 yard settings, we forged ahead. The swag was close and he missed only his first ram for a very respectable 39X40. I also ran my Unlimited and Production guns through, both of these also with cast bullets. The NRA rifle shooters fired 17 entries but I don’t have those scores.

Great shooing. Good to keep the competition in the family!!! What was your CB load for your 7TCU UAS gun? I also have an XP in 7TCU and would like to try CBs. I would also be interested in those rifle scores unless they don't turn in their cards. Good to see you and Philip keep silhouettes alive in LA.

There is a different match director for the rifle shooters so they keep their scores separately. While I was picking up the targets on the handgun side he left and I didn't get the scores.

I'd be glad to share my 7TCU load but it goes much further than just a particular type of powder, charge weight, bullet, and primer. It's all about precisely fitting the bullet to the chamber. The load is 23 gr of AA2015, CCI 400 primer, RCBS 145 cast out of Hardball alloy. I size the drive bands to .2865" and the nose to .277" and seat the bullet so that only the gascheck is in the case neck. Please note that those dimensions are for my specific chamber and your chamber may be vastly different and this won't work at all. In my gun, the above load will deliver MOA accuracy when I do my part......which I often don't do at a match. :D

I use the same bullet and all most the same exact dimensions on the body and the nose. I use H322 which is similar to AA2015. You must have a very long throat to just seat the gas check but obviously it is working great for you. Guess I will just continue to tweak my load a little but don't have much hopes of matching your skill level. Thanks for the info.
