ASCENSION SILHOUETTE
GONZALES, LA
FEBRUARY 6, 2016
BY: CHARLIE BRAUD

We had a very light turnout for our February match. Philip shot his usual UAS 40X40 with his Ruger Charger. I had a poor showing with my High Standard in UAS. The turkeys just would not cooperate and I settled for a 36X40 in UAS. Ellis Sisk managed a 20X40 in Practical Hunter 22LR using a Taurus Tracker revolver. We had one non-IHMSA member shoot a respectable 27X40 with a FA revolver. We did have several NRA Smallbore Cowboy Rifle shooters share the range with us but I don’t have their scores. After our usual match, we reset the range and shot an unsanctioned big bore swinger match alongside the NRA Cowboy rifle shooters. I did manage a UAS 40X40 with cast bullets using a XP100 7BR

Charlie, I really like that cast bullet score of yours!!! Bet it felt good to get out and shoot some steel again. Can't wait till we get started at the end of next month.

Thanks. What made that score particularly gratifying is that this was my first attempt with this gun on silhouettes and all I had was 50 meter sight settings.

That just adds to the challenge. I pulled one off like that this summer with my 308 Wichita and my NOE cast bullet load. Came back the next month with a swelled head and didn't do so well. Reality check set in!!!! Still great shooting.
