I bought 8lbs of 5744 and need a load with 139 and 150 grain jacketed bullets. Is there any such starting loads out there? I have used it in .357sm and like it a lot with cast boolits. Any pearls of wisdom appreciated.

I use 23.0 grains of AA5744 in my 260 Remington Striker with 129 and 140 grain bullets and it is deadly accurate. 23.0 grains comes up about 2/3rds the way to the shoulder. I realized these are two different cases but you might try loading to the same density (2/3rds) and I'm sure the pressure will be very low. My primers are slightly backed out of fired cases since there is no set back to reseat them. Very easy to shoot in long matches. I just filled one of my 30BR cases to about 2/3rds with AA5744 and it weighed exactly 21.0 grains. I planned to try AA5744 in my 30BR and now I know what load I will try with 125 and 150 grain bullets. One thing I have noticed in my Striker is unburned kernals of powder every so often and I just blow down through the action after every five shots to make sure they are gone. I suspect my loads are on the very mild side but are very accurate so I don't plan on changing anything.

how do they match up MV and recoil wise. I'm sure it meters better

I have used both 4759 and 5744. Craig is right about it burning dirtier. I usually had a lot of unburned residue when I used it. But as far as a replacement for 4759, I heard that 5744 is also scheduled for phase-out. This I cannot confirm though.

I was gifted 3lbs a few years ago. I worked up a load for my .357sm with it. As pressures and velocities increased fewer kernels of unburnt powder were left in barrel. I settled on a load that left more kernels but was accurate and had less recoil. My notes show I can about 1-2 grains more.

Well I may have to revisit 5744. I know it shot ok but never came close to accuracy I am getting with 4759. I am looking for a replacement rather than go out and buy a bunch. In my wonderings I ran across some discussion on using reduced loads of varget guys were having luck with. It is all but fruitless trying to find any of that in my neck of the woods.
I still have to laugh about the hodgdon guys comments on trail boss replacing 4759. Open mouth insert foot.

I had the same experience as you did. It never shot as well as 4759. It was tried in several other cartridges, and I didn't find it a drop-in replacement, powder charges were different.

Hodgdon advertises that H-4895 can be reduced to 60% of it's normal loads and still be safe. Saves money and recoil.

This load is so mild the primers don't even reseat from set back. I have used that same load in 7-08 and 308 Strikers with same results. You do get a few unburned granules so I just blow down through the action after five rounds to clean out the leftover granules. I suspect my load is so mild I am not getting complete combustion but I'm not going to mess with an accurate load.

I had read that 5744 was also going to be discontinued. They did this
to SR-4759 couple of times before, and ended up bringing it back. I use
SR-4759 in my 7mm International, and I stocked up on it when I read that.
In fact, I called Hodgdon and the fellow I talked to, confirmed that when the
SR-4759 is gone from the pipeline, thats it!
