One reason it's expensive is that they give everyone who signs up for the Int. a plaque. That has got to be expensive. If you happen t win something, they mail you little placards to put on the plaque. I have never agreed with this, but they do it every year. A trophy or plaque is something to be earned, not just handed out to everyone for simply attending

In my analysis of the financials over the weekend, I split the corp into 3 separate entities: competitions income/expense, IHMSA news income/expense, and overhead income/expense. It was very telling. For 2012, trophy/awards cost 14 cents out of every dollar collected in the competition center, with incomes coming from intl entry fees, sanction fees and misc. sales. Scorecards cost 4 cents out of every dollar and IHMSA kept 49 cents out of every dollar collected.

I consider me a new comer since i have only gone to one Int. and that was this year. The one expence that hit hard was how much the target setters got paid. I know it went to a good caust, the local school band to take a trip, and they did do a good job. I can not remeber the brake down, but it was paid per gun shot. After i think 8 guns the shooter did not pay for the other guns shot but the target setters did and i think a bounus on top of that also a tip jar. I know we need the target setters but it was a lot of money i thought.

686, I dont know if you have ever set targets, but lemme tell you from
experience, it is hard work! I have never begrudged funds for target setters
because without them, YOU HAVE NO MATCH! Its a hard fact, but it' a fact
nonetheless.

Yes LOCKHART i have set targets. At the real nice in Sanford Fl. you have to set your own targets. I have pushed it and shot 5 matches in a day, after a 3 hr drive there. I know the target setters are very important to a match. I just thought it was a lot of money out of the entry fees, since IHMSA is hurting for money. Maybe some one knows the amount that was paid. I think it was $5.00 per gun . after 8 guns IHMSA did not charge any thing but still paid out. I only shot 10 guns and some people shot less but some a lot more. I do agrew we need the setters.

In 2007 and 2009, target setters received 6000.00 each year. In 2012, it was 1800.00. Not sure where 2007 was held, but 2009 was Ft Stockton and 2012 was in OKC. Six grand seems a bit much for me for an eight(?) day shoot.

The line item Tusco Maintenance was 1000.00 in 2007, 4600.00 in 2008 when they held intls, 500.00 in 2009, and 500.00 in 2010 when they held the intls. Nothing since then. As I understand, we paid nothing to use OKC, and agree with Toneddowndaddy that OKC is more centrally located, which is maybe why they had the largest amount of entry fees in the 6 years I looked at, and with the methodology I used, returned us 49 cents on the dollar in the competition profit center.

Craig you are 100% correct OKCGC did not charge for the range use in 2012 and we not charging in 2014. I don`t remember for sure what FT Stockton charged for the target setters, but i`m fairly sure it was more than OKCGC.Setting targets at the Internationals
in Ft Stockton BB and 1/2 scale is all hand set, Most of the school students are working this event and the money is ear marked for the school.
OKCGC has electronic Auto reset in BB and 1/2 Scale, and mechanical lever reset for the remaining targets, by the Internationals we should be all Auto reset.

I don't know how much was paid for target setters at last years ECC. I know David gave one volunteer some money because he was there all week. The rest of it was all done by me and David and a few others. For a large shoot mechanical reset is the future. It cuts down on cost and if the units are constructed well and all breakdowns are fixed promptly saves time. We started everyday of last years Ecc on time and finished on time. We inspected the mechanisms every time we painted targets, so we could formulate a plan to fix the problem between relays.

I believe high school kids making money for the band or whatever are the worst target setters there are period. It takes time to train a setter properly. WE should only have the Internationals where reset targets are available.

Some people probably like the plaques, and I'm sure many would just assume do without, so IHMSA could simply have that as part of the entry form--if you want a plaque, you pay an extra $$$ amount for it. Would save a few bucks. The entry fees for the internationals is relatively cheap, so I don't think it would be unreasonable to have this as an add-on for those who wanted the plaque.
