Just to be clear, there are special rules pertaining to making pistols out of rifles.

The Kimber I mentioned started with a bare action so was classified as "other" when purchased. Cutting down rifles is a big NO-NO.

I am in Australia.
It is leagal for a gunsmith to cut a rifle down and re register as a pistol.
