7mm T/CU Starline 223 basic brass

Looking to get back into IHMSA unlimited and I’m going use a 7mm T/CU like I did twenty years or so ago. I am thinking of using Starline 223 basic cases this time. Not sure if they will be long but have the equipment to trim. I figure that sizing down instead of up from 223 Rem. case will make for a thicker neck which then I can turn the necks to make them consistent in thickness of which again I have the equipment to do that. Has anybody tried this ?

I am using starline brass for my 7TCU and it makes great cases. I just have to run them through the die and fireform them. no crooked necks, etc and I have not lost a case yet out of 200 rounds!

I use regular Starline 223 brass for my 7 tcu. I anneal first and then run them in the die. Necks turn out perfect. Allen

I've done mine exactly the same way with no issues. A little lube in the neck works wonders. I shoot the flop position and as such I am still working on a low recoil load that will still knock down hinged rams.

I am referring to the Starline 223 Basic case that do not have the neck or shoulder formed. So it would be sizing the neck down, not up. The main reason to me is to end up with a thicker neck which can then be neck turned to create a consistent neck tension on the bullet.

just some cautions with the basic brass. It is not annealed and you will need to anneal the brass before forming. Also, this brass is longer than standard 223 brass and you probably will need to trim the brass before shooting.

other than that, it is the same brass as the .223.

this brass did not come out too long ago (in the last year) and you probably will not find many people who have used it yet.

I know about the needed for annealing and have done it many times in the past. Starline’s website states the need for annealing also.

One of the reasons for me to use the Starline 223 basic cases is they do not have a cartridge designation on the case head. I like that. I have converted cartridge cases in the past, and it always kind of bugged me that the caliber did not match the case.

I will have to get some Starline for the TCU , all my RP is rung out and I've tried using Mil Spec but just doesn't shoot as well . I have looked at the Starline but passed it up.

that's pretty amazing considering the fact they are not know to be the most reliable casing on the market
