.22 Hornet Loads

Think I'm getting a Hornet barrel this winter. Going to be a 14-15 inch MGM 1-9 or 1-10 inch twist. It will be used for Practical hunter mostly and half scale occasionally. I want a powder that doesn't take much. I done a search and found 231, 4227 and some others. Give me powders that will shoot both field pistol and half scale. I also will take loads for 40, 45, and 50 grainers. I have a friend who owns a reloading supply store. If he has some odd bullets he picked up and they're cheap. I'll shoot them.

Greg, a few years ago Eddy Hensley and I used the 10'' Hornet for half scale. While it was workable, it suffered quickly and badly in any wind. Eventually I migrated to a 221 FB, and then to the 223. My current spotting partner, Clint Johnson, uses a 10'' TC 223 barrel (scoped) in half scale. The scoped 10'' balances well and doesnt need any help in half scale.
Obviously it isnt a FP entry. If you do go into a Hornet, you dont need to hot rod it. Moderate loads work well. If you scope your Hornet, consider a 2 or 4x rifle scope if you go ''taco hold''. While red dots will work, for me they seem to wash out on bright days or the battery takes a dump when you least need that problem. rp
