7X47 Info

Post by 260 Striker »

Just picked up a nice XP action in 7X47. I can't find much info on this cartridge. I know it is the 222 Rem Mag necked up and probably has about the same case capacity as a 7BR, maybe slightly less. I can see 7X47 Helm dies for sale but don't know what the Helm cartridge is. I ordered a set anyway just to try them. I can always use my 7TCU dies by raising them in the press. Can anyone tell me the difference from the 7X47 Helm and might also have some load info for the standard 7X47? I tried C4HD for dies but they are back logged about 6 to 8 months now. Thanks for any info. Lynn

Redding reloading shows the 7x47 in their custom die list.

Sorry I can't answer about the Helm, my dies are RCBS. Maybe a coincidence but my XP was built back in the 80's by a smith named Helmut S.
The 7x47 is almost identical ballistically to the 7 TCU, maybe just a grain or 2 differece in powder capacity. The difference between the two are the TCU was blown out to a straight wall with sharp shoulder and the 47 kept the case taper and shoulder. Loads for the TCU work well in the 47.
My favorite load is 29gr of 748 behind a 139gr bullet. The load may be a little on the stiff side but I like the extra on rams.
