Hodgdon H4227 Replacement

Post by Jayaretea »

I've been using Hodgdon H4227 in my 22 Hornet for field pistol and in my Rampro 7JI for big bore and half scale. I've used up the last of my old stock and with H4227 no longer available I'm looking for a replacement. I see that IMR 4227 has a similar burn rate. With minor load adjustments is IMR 4227 a good replacement for H4227? Are there other recommendations?

I believe you will find that I M R is a very close direct replacement.
I have served as assistant match director, Southern Silhouette club, 1980s. Also, the Griffin Gun Club for Silhouette during the 1990s, to about 2005. For a short period I authored the ''Cast Bullet'' section of The IHMSA News. Joined IHMSA March 1979.

Since IMR and Hodgdon are now owned by the same corporation I thought I heard where the IMR 4227 formulation was being dropped and the H4227 formulation was just renamed to IMR 4227. Don't remember where I read that or maybe wishful thinking on someone's part when they posted that info. Might have to go to the Hodgdon site and ask that question.
