.32 H&R Mag Loads?

Post by jmoore »

Bought a .32 maggot Contender barrel not long ago with some 140gr pointy JHP match bullets already loaded, but where to find loading data to do more along the same lines? Plenty of brass but only about 120 rounds of loaded ammo which won't last long!

More likely going to try it in BB at first, but may use it later on in FP, which can probably utilize conventional "book" loads.

I've got a 327 Federal that I'm working up loads on for 327 and 32 H&R that I plan I using in Field Pistol; however, I did run across some folks inquiring about BB loads on the following pages:

Thanks for the links, it's a start. Too bad the .32 is a .308", I've lots more options with heavy cast bullet moulds in the 0.313" range. Drama being not so much the groove dia., rather the bore riding noses are too big.

And in this instance, jacketed bullets are more appealing anyway.

Wouldn't have thought a 1-10" twist would stabilize 220 grain bullets at such low muzzle velocities. Hope they aren't needed, regardless!

the loads I gave you with the barrel is 5.2 grs. Vihta Vouri N340(very similar to W231) with a Nosler 140 gr. Custom Competition bullet, WSR primers. Velocity around 1070 fps. It will take the rams at our range
I also tried 8.0 grs. W296 with a 190 BTHP bullet, and they grouped very well, well enough in fact, that I would not hesitate to shoot that load in that barrel for BB prod.
For FP, try 4.5 to 5.0 grs of W231 with a 110-110 gr bullet.

Thanks for the specifics!

It's just that I'm one to poke through a multitude of manuals before "wandering off the reservation" with new loads.

WW231 has been a "go to" powder for a long time, but the new stuff doesn't look hardly anything like the old 231. Scary! Along with the 110gr bullet, it looks good, though. But I'm inclined to stick with revolvers for FP for now. No good reason, just because!

I also have a mess of old WW680 that seems a good fit... Never mind the giant stash of H110/WW296!
