Amount of force to topple targets

The bullets may be smaller but not the challenge.

Amount of force to topple targets

Post by Mustang Gregg »

**== **== **== **== **==

I have gotten back into IHMSA after 30 years.

I am building some knockdown racks for smallbore shooting.

I see there is a recommended amount of force to KD each of the air pistol targets.
Is there a recommended amount of force to drop each of the smallbore animals that I should try to calibrate to?

I have built several different action targets and have a stock of steel, welders, torches, and other machine shop equipment.

Any helpful hints are appreciated.

Much obliged,

MG, Don't know the amount of force but our club sets big bore rams so they will topple if you move the top of the back about 1" backward.
Extrapolating to small bore I would think the targets should fall if the top of the target was moved back between 1/4 and 1/2 inch. Maybe less but you would have to allow for wind blowing over the smaller targets.
Still not the answer you were looking for but might be a starting point.

Page 14 of the current rule book says it should be 8oz or less.
