Pete, Glad to hear the weather guys were wrong!!! My first IHMSA gun was a 10" TC in 30-30 so warms my heart to see that old cartridge still being used. You now have to get some cast bullets to go with that old girl. Great match.

Thanks Steve, we are getting very thin on the ground up here, we get new shooters interested and they turn out but unfortunately there is no real incentive for them to join IHMSA.

Yes the 30-30 is a great calibre, I have two 10" barrels and the trusty 14" barrel, I have tried cast in them but things seem to fall apart beyond the pigs!

Pete, I am presently shooting a NOE 311414 spire point gas checked bullet cast out of linotype in my 308 Wichita and it is extremely accurate out to rams. If you are into casting this is a great bullet and probably would work well in your 30-30 barrels. Lynn

Lynn, I don't cast my own so I rely on a caster at our club. The one I had been using was a gas checked RCBS 150gr, very accurate out of my old Winchester 1894 but not so good out the 14" TC barrel. I will check to see what other molds he has. Pete

It's not so much the style of cast bullet that is important. It's how well that bullet fits the chamber throat. My XP100 7TCU with an RCBS 145 Sil as it drops from the mold and sized .285" shot "patterns" of about 6" at 100 yards. This with COWW alloy. Once I made the bullet fit my chamber throat and started using a harder alloy, I was able to get MOA accuracy. Cast bullet fit is the key.
